Turtles Have Shells

©2002 Mike Rimbaud

Naked in he water, protected by a boat
You can walk downtown without a net
Your room might be very large
But turtles have shells
The extra weight might hide you
Or a fifty-dollar haircut
All the make up will someday wash away
But turtles have shells
It’s a slow, slow life sometimes
Win the race anyway, don’t miss a beat
Snails get it, mussels have the juice
And turtles have shells
A good umbrella will keep you dry
A hat and sunglasses can disguise you
Wine might cover all your misery, oh yea
But turtles have shells
Cold feet and butterfly’s inside
With a new girl or on stage
Trees block out the sun, until the leaves fall
But turtles have shells
